Surgut City Mall Shopping and Entertainment Centre

Surgut City Mall shopping and entertainment center is a major regional retail complex whose lighting design project was implemented in 2012. Stefan Schneider participated in the work as key client development manager and lighting designer as part of Tochka Opory Promelectrosvet CJSC.

Lighting a regional shopping center is a task with its own specifics. A regional complex often becomes one of the city’s key public spaces and operates on an extended set of scenarios — from daily short visits to spending entire weekends with the whole family. Lighting in such a facility must support all these scenarios: provide functional comfort, create atmosphere for extended stays, support navigation through lengthy galleries, and properly represent different types of tenants.

Working on such a project as part of a specialized lighting engineering company involved participation at different stages — from interaction with clients and architects at the task discussion stage to supporting design and supply solutions. This format of participation provides the opportunity to see the project holistically and understand how decisions made in early stages work in real operation.

The experience accumulated in this way today forms the foundation of Lichtschneider’s approach to shopping center projects.
